Girl Scouts of Colorado - Forever Green

Girl Scouts are Forever Green!

Girl Scouts are taking the lead to a greener tomorrow. Girls across the state are working on take-action projects to make a difference in their communities. In cities, in small towns, in the mountains and in farming communities, the changes are adding up to a greener Colorado.

Happy Earth Day!

Greetings to all of our friends and participants on this Earth Day! I have been amazed and excited at the variety of projects and actions girls are taking across Colorado as part of Girl Scouts Forever Green. You are truly making the world and your communities a better place. From community gardens to recycle events to our Girl Scout Go Dark participants, you are proving that the actions of one person can and do make a difference.

I also want to send a reminder that being and advocate for a greener planet does not end on one day or after one project. It shall continue for the rest of your life. Your are working to change ideas and behaviors, which may be difficult. However, if you continue to make the world a better place and each person you touch shares and continues to make the world a better place, then it will be.

Thanks again to everyone for their support and participation! You rock!

Troop 2198 Earth Day project at school

On April 19th Troop 2198 is using the "Go Dark" program as a kick off for their schools new recycling program. The girls are writing skits to go on the school news and teach their fellow classmates how to recycle in the lunchroom. They will be leaders in running this new program. On April 22nd they will be hosting an Earth Day awareness event by asking families to come and help clean up the school property. Not only are they helping with the cleanup and the recycling but they are writing letters and trying to get trees and picnic tables donated for the school. So far the girls have received a grant from the Arbor Day society and Disney to plant 50 6" trees on the school property. Way to GO GREEN Girls!

Green is in the Air!!!

Spring is just around the corner and you can feel the excitement in the air! Troops across the state are looking to begin their projects and start to make their world a better place. From healing gardens and reusable bag drives to energy audits and recycling drives, girls are taking the lead to be green.

We are asking all troops, indviduals and supporters to join us as we work to complete our pilot program with Girl Scouts Forever Green. Register your projects today and be a part of this amazing opportunity to be a leader in your community on an important part of Girl Scout history.

Not sure your project counts? Or feel one girl cannot make a difference? All movements begin with the actions of a few. You can do this! Download the Forever Green Resource Guide and learn what you can do.

I look forward to seeing what great projects we can do for Colorado!

Green Cookies

It's a brand new year and Girl Scouts of Colorado is ready to make it green. I know many of you are busy preparing for our Cookie Activity and I have no doubt that you will all have great success. But, in addition to promoting healthy living, why not promote a healthy environment as well! Here are a few ideas on how to be green with cookies:

  • Recycle old cookie boxes into door hangers
  • Provide a list of cardboard/paperboard recycling centers during booth sales for customers to promote recycling
  • Create reusable signs for your booth sales
  • Recycle cookie cases as hobby, storage or paper recycle boxes
  • Recycle your activity resources at the end of your sale
  • Join the online Cookie Club and save some paper

Just one little action can have a huge impact. Let's help not only keep our customer waist lines trim, but help our planet have smaller landfills. Good luck ladies and remember to have fun!!!

DON'T FORGET!!! Register your troop or individual project to be a part of Girl Scouts Forever Green and help green Colorado.

From the Project Manager

WELCOME!!! I am very excited and thrilled that our Girl Scouts Forever Green project is off!

This is the first of what I hope to be several blogs from Girl Scouts, young and old, about what they are doing to help make the world a better place. Colorado is a beautiful slice of America. Full of mountains majesty and sweeping plains, it is a nature lover's paradise. I cannot think of a more picture perfect location for us to make a difference.

Imagine a world without hiking, camping or just a gorgeous sunset. Being stewards of the environment means we are not only protectors, but preservers. We have the power to help our planet heal and keep our state beautiful. Are you ready to help? I hope you are and I look forward to seeing what you can do.

Good Luck and Let's Make It Green!
